Hello, and happy 2014! I hope this newsletter finds you keeping warm in the deepest part of winter. All the snow and ice can be burdensome, but we can’t let it slow us down – because we know you can’t, either! While the temperatures plummet outside, we’re just heating up at Hello Health HQ. As of January, Hello Health is the only EHR provider that can offer both technology and billing services at no cost. Yes, we took our current revenue-generating patient subscription business model up a notch with the addition of our Revenue Cycle Management Services. We’re confident that this new aspect of our product suite will be an important step along the path toward more efficient and profitable medical practice management.

This month, we will release our latest version of Hello Health, Version 6.6. From speeding up simple search options to making it easier to manage family information, the new features make a good product even better. With this in mind, please know that our account managers and support team are here for you. Changes in healthcare mean more uninsured patients and high deductible policies in your payment mix. Post-visit billing and collections are a bigger hassle than ever before. A recent study showed that primary care offices have a less than 20 percent recovery rate for debt collection. (ACA International’s Top Collection Markets Survey, Jan. 1 – Dec. 31, 2012.)

That’s why Hello Health’s CCOF program provides a framework that not only helps you secure payments upon check-in, but also enables you to seamlessly collect unpaid balances and past due amounts. Up front payment means reduced billing costs, fewer bad debt-write offs, and an optimized revenue cycle.

patient_cardThe “patient card” in the Hello Health platform can serve as a handy shortcut to many important features.

Did you know all of the things you can do from the patient card? Here's a handy list:

  • Quickly ascertain a patient’s PortalConnect membership status
  • Link to update preferred contact method and contact information
  • Jot down an internal sticky note to communicate information about a patient that is non-medically relevant
  • Access patient visit notes
  • See if a credit card is expired
  • Review and update insurance information

Where are you originally from?
Sydney, Australia, though I was born in Tasmania. I cop flack for that all the time!

What do you enjoy most about your job?
I enjoy working for Hello Health because it gives me the opportunity to help people and make sure they are taken care of. When people call for support I want to make sure that they feel comfortable and confident that they are receiving all the information they need. My goal is to have each call end with a happy customer.

What kinds of people do you admire?
Humanitarians. I admire people who spend their lives helping better the lives of others. Someday I would love to found a gang resuscitation centre/program for children who are in gangs to get them off the streets and back into their families and homes.

Tell us something that not many people know about you.
I love to dance. I am a trained professional ballerina, but my career ended due to injury.

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services is extending the deadline for eligible professionals to attest to meaningful use for the Medicare EHR Incentive Program 2013, the agency announced recently. This extension will allow more time for providers to submit their meaningful use data and receive an incentive payment for the 2013 program year, as well as avoid the 2015 payment adjustment. The reporting year will extend one month for eligible professionals. The deadline was extended from 11:59 p.m. EST on Feb. 28, 2014 to 11:59 p.m. on March 31, 2014. Via Healthcare IT News.

CMS recently published a final rule on its exception to the physician self referral law. The "Physicians" Referrals to Health Care Entities With Which They Have Financial Relationships: Exception for Certain Electronic Health Records (EHR) Arrangements," will go into effect on March 27. Via AAFP.
